Tyler Reddick had a great race at Las Vegas, finishing second in both stages, and second in the race behind Kyle Larson. Despite that result, the 23XI Racing driver was frustrated after the race and shared that frustration in his post-race interview. “Same s***, different year,” he said.

Those remarks understandably became a hot topic in NASCAR circles. Less than 24 hours after he said them, Reddick’s boss, Denny Hamlin, addressed them on his “Actions Detrimental” podcast.

“This is the new team blues and this is why, as smart as Justin (Marks) is, he just bought a team that already had good pit crews,” Hamlin said, referring to the Trackhouse co-owner purchasing Chip Ganassi Racing. “When I had to start this damn thing from scratch, I had nobody.

“Anybody that’s really really good, they’re under long contracts. These teams lock these guys up for years and years and so you got nobody. You got to find talent within the field somewhere that’s got experience or you try to get some young guys that are very inexperienced. And this is just part of starting a team and trying to do this on your own.

“Generally speaking, yes, this is a topic this weekend and it’s the hot topic for sure, but it’s a process. It f****** sucks. I know it sucks. It’s keeping the 23XI guys out of Victory Lane. No question about it, there was at least two or three victories that Tyler should have had last year but he didn’t get an opportunity because we messed up for him on pit road.”

Tyler Reddick Clarifies Heated Remarks After Las Vegas

Tyler Reddick visited Austin, Texas this week to promote the upcoming Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas, an event he won in 2023. During that trip to the University of Texas campus, where he visited with students on the Longhorn Racing team, the 23XI Racing driver was asked about his post-race comments at Vegas and Hamlin’s response.

“I think that was definitely taken out of context a bit,” the 28-year-old said. “I didn’t do a great job clarifying it in the moment. Speaking pretty passionately about my hand in the outcome of the race. Certainly, some people interpreted in a way it was not meant. I knew walking away from the race and on Monday we debriefed about it, yeah, certainly we could have had faster pit stops. But all that pretty much started with my entry into the pit box was very inconsistent. So I wasn’t really giving my pit crew a chance to be honest with you.

“It’s something that we’re going to keep working on, making better. You know we had some curveballs thrown at us, if you will, with our pit stall. There’s things we can do there to clean it up as well. It all starts with me. If I don’t come into the box properly and stop on the marks, it’s making it very difficult for my pit crew to execute the stop as fast as they need to.”

Tyler Reddick Addresses Hamlin Calling Him Out on Podcast for Peeing in Firesuit

When Tyler Reddick joined 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin was just a driver and team co-owner. He’s since added the title of podcast co-host and in the last several weeks has talked about his driver on the show. A week before discussing the No. 45 team’s pit crew issues at Las Vegas, the three-time Daytona 500 winner admitted that he broke the seal for the first time in his career at Atlanta and peed in his firesuit. He also surprisingly called out Reddick for doing it on a weekly basis.

In Austin, Reddick was asked what he thinks about Hamlin talking about him so much on the podcast, including the peeing conversation.

“I hold my breath sometimes because I don’t know if it’s going to be good or bad,” Reddick admitted. “Yeah, you know I thought that was funny. I saw the clip. They obviously clipped it for social and we interacted back with it. Yeah, I got a kick out of it.”

Reddick’s got the right attitude. There’s nothing the can do about what his boss says on his podcast. He just has to perform on the race track and hopefully that’s what Hamlin will talk about. And if you think about it — it’s hard to imagine Hamlin will be able to find a more personal subject about Reddick than he already has.
